THE SUN AND THEM

Hello dear readers! Happy Holidays to all the gulf babies like me. Finally school has closed and because of that, I miss my friends and meeting them everyday. This piece is dedicated to all my friends that impacted me and still do. I decided to add a little twist by expressing it in a new perspective.

Mercury
As small as you are, you played the foundation for me to make friendships. You were the first one to teach me that there was more to see than just the surface and I came to see that you weren’t the only planet in the solar system. Just the first and the one that burned out the quickest.

Venus
You are so full of love, yet I can see the pain you hide inside. I am so sorry that you don’t get the love you give. People treat you so selfishly. But you made me appreciate affection because that is after all what attracted me to you.

Earth
Thank you for keeping me sane and humane in this chaotic life story. You are a blessing and the most down-to-earth friend I know. Hence, the name, it just fits like I always seem to belong when I am with you. People do you wrong and I know that because you deserve more. For you are more. No one will be more important than you are to me. The moon is part of me, constantly revolving you because even though I am independent, you are the one planet I will fall back on. Thank you for rooting me to the ground. I love you very much.

Mars
I hadn't figured the façade you put on. I thought you’d be as special as the earth but you turned out to be as small as your size. Thank you for teaching me that even if I am the sun, not everything revolves around me. You taught me to accept change and that I wouldn’t be friends with everybody.

Jupiter
You were the big change. The fat ball of growth. I realized that I loved people. I wanted to make more friends. More of them like you. But just like you were a big ball of change and all things good, you turned out to be alone yourself. You detached from the world, decided that you’d rather not be close to anyone but still friends with all. You taught me a great deal.

Saturn
A lot of rings surround you. I saw you without them and we grew up together. I was and am so blessed and the beauty in you finally reached out to more. The rings represent the many people that want you or want to be you. But thank you. Thank you for choosing me as your best friend. I absolutely adore you. I want to be like you but not completely because you showed me that the system needs one of me too.

Uranus
The second biggest. We didn’t come to be close in the traditional manner and I am sorry. Sorry that we’ve faded into a color as pale as you. But I appreciate you. You taught me to detach when I had to and to appreciate the importance of balance.

Neptune
You’re kind and jut filled with positivity. I wish we weren’t that faraway because there seems to be distance even though we’re close. I envy how beautifully you handle life and I definitely am fascinated. I’m so glad I discovered you. Your colour may be blue but I could never feel that way around you.

Pluto
Just like how you were on the extreme end of the solar system, we are definitely on opposite ends of the spectrum. Even though you looked small, you threw me under a million emotions. I hadn’t realized what true betrayal felt like. You overtook after Mercury. A totally different kind of lane. That’s why you needed to leave. But I respect you. I learnt I was more than blessed in life.

[ if you didn't understand the idea- a planet represents a friend. if you think of particular people when reading each one, do share it with them :) ]

Hope you liked it dear readers. Until next time,
