BH; Our 45th National Day '16

Image
"  With red and white smeared on my cheek,    it's December, the weather, not too bleak    I'm proud to reminisce in my life over here, how proud I feel to say,    the most auspicious celebration of the land, it's our National Day.   I may not be marked as Bahraini on my passport   but it's seared into my blood, born and raised; to any disagreement, I will not resort.   More than enthusiastic to see the fireworks colour the sky   As the thought of leaving this island comes to mind, I don't think I will want to say goodbye.   This homely and unifying island may be a dot on the map   but in my mind and heart, it means a million times more than that   An Indian in the Gulf, I know I am not just one   Thank you Bahrain for taking us in, making us feel at home.   I am more than enthused to whizz past streaks of red and white lined with the palm trees   parked by the pavement. sitting on the ...

THE SUN AND THEM

Hello dear readers! Happy Holidays to all the gulf babies like me. Finally school has closed and because of that, I miss my friends and meeting them everyday. This piece is dedicated to all my friends that impacted me and still do. I decided to add a little twist by expressing it in a new perspective.  -- Mercury As small as you are, you played the foundation for me to make friendships. You were the first one to teach me that there was more to see than just the surface and I came to see that you weren’t the only planet in the solar system. Just the first and the one that burned out the quickest. Venus You are so full of love, yet I can see the pain you hide inside. I am so sorry that you don’t get the love you give. People treat you so selfishly. But you made me appreciate affection because that is after all what attracted me to you. Earth Thank you for keeping me sane and humane in this chaotic life story. You are a blessing and the most down-to-earth friend...

To: My Mother

Hello again! Today, on the auspicious occasion of International Mothers Day,  I have written a small poem. This is dedicated to all the mothers out there :) A big shout-out to you and your unconditional love . -- To my mother; Thank you for working tirelessly everyday on the dot Giving me the best, more than I could ever need, clearly I was blessed with a lot You stayed you up until dawn till I stopped crying I only want to see you happy, I will always be trying You taught me to be bold To never put my dreams on hold You showed me how to be humble Always told me that I had a voice, never to mumble You filled me with love, so that is what I will give What can I say? This has been the most beautiful way to live You have let me create my own way However you made sure that I never go astray I love you so much mom, I hope this makes your day. -- Hope you enjoyed this piece. Don't forget to remind your mother  about how lucky y...

How Blessed Are We

It has been ages since I last posted and yes, I feel guilty. However, I only publish what I write when I am truly content with my content. Why stop at average when you know you can do better? Since the 12 th grade has begun, the days have gone by in a blur. So here I am, drinking some green tea, listening to some soft music and ready to share with you some of my latest thoughts.  Here is something new, the first poem I wish to present to you: -- How blessed I must be To have people who don’t need reasons to love me To be able to experience and not merely watch The sun kissing the land; looking like heaven’s match To wake up to another fresh and new day To see one’s smile shine up till their eyes, in their own special way Have you paid close attention to how words roll out of each one’s mouth; so very differently Or how we all sound the same underwater, because what can the water do to you if you keep swimming Do you remember the day we sat ...

Inspiring Young Individuals

My mom once told me "If someone takes their life, there are many to blame. A harsh word, a mean act would force them to think of the worst. On the contrary, just imagine saving a life unintentionally by slipping in a supportive message, so always be nice to people because you don't know what they're going through." -- If you're having a bad day, i would like you to cheer up! You made it through a hell of a week of schooling and you're past another challenging day. Maybe you had a fight with a friend you care about, maybe you got the result of a horrible paper or maybe your parents shouted at you and their words pierced you. You're possibly in a state of giving up on all humanity&hope.  But you know what?  I won't go all wise with quotes and of course it's hard but it's not the worst. There's still more to come and if you don't face any ups and downs, you aren't alive. The human tendency is to look at the negatives more th...

2016: The year for success

New Year. New Me. That is by far the sentence over played by almost every human on the face of the earth on  the 1st of January.  However, I would like to stop you there. Why wish for a new you? Why not an improved you? I, as an individual lack commitment and I found the perfect solution. I will be starting to keep  a diary. No, not a journal. A diary in which I write daily. I have tried maintaining it before but it  never worked but I have a different purpose and determination now and I fully intend on  achieving it. A new year is an opportunity to start over. To leave your past and move forward. 365 days to  make things better. A clean slate. Everybody wants something like that and every year, we  are all faced with an option to do so but we fail to realise that. We all aim to be successful in one thing or another. After attending an event and  experiencing a motivational speech, I learnt five steps to be successful. I would like to ...
